Spotify Introduces A ‘Lite’ Version Of Its App In India

After its debut in India, Spotify has now come up with a light version of its music streaming app for the Indian market. The new app will run on Android only and is just 11 MB in size which is quite small compared to the size of its main app. Launched with the name, Spotify Lite, the app has already been tested in other regions like Malaysia, Indonesia, Mexico, Philippines and Brazil.

In terms of looks, the app isn’t much different from the main app and offers almost the same key features of on demand music play, discovering new music and saving songs for offline listening. The app also enables users to track their mobile data consumption on a monthly basis and set limit on the data usage by Spotify Lite. So far, Spotify Lite has been installed 2.1 million times in 22 countries and some thousand downloads have been done in India since its launch. According to a report, AmarjitBatra, Managing Director for Spotify India, said that the Lite app aims to facilitate the localisation of Spotify’s service as it gives users the freedom to listen to any song from a list of millions of songs for free. The app doesn’t use much space on phones and also saves data when used on the go.

As mentioned by Spotify, the app is just a beta version and the company will work on conducting routine tests in order to improve the user experience. These tests pave the path to create better and broader user experience as well as serve as crucial learning to move ahead.
